Plastic Surgery --- For or Against?


Yesterday, we (6 Charity) had a debate about plastic surgery after reading the LRD article on Page 4 of this week's LRD (15th Feb).

Half the class came up with points supporting plastic surgery while the other half came up with points against it. The class got very noisy because many of us were very passionate about our views, but I think it was a very interesting topic!

FOR PLASTIC SURGERY
- It gives people a headstart in the beauty department, according to the article
- It gives doctors more money
- It increases emotional security, according to the article
- It might be necessary for accident cases or for life-threatening cases
- It enhances natural beauty
- After you look confident on the outside, you will feel more confident on the inside
- It is no different from beautifying yourself with make-up
- There is always a risk whatever you do

AGAINST PLASTIC SURGERY
- The opposite sex likes natural beauty and plastic surgery might be off-putting
- It wastes money if you do it unecessarily
- It's better to feel confident on the inside first. Then, you'll look confident on the outside.
- There is a risk if operations go wrong
- It can cause a lot of scars and there may be side-effects from the procedures
- After you do one procedure, there will be a lot of mental stress to keep looking beautiful all the time
- Botox makes you look tight
- People should just be satisfied with what God has given them

    I think that people should not go for a plastic surgery as it has a lot of risks and it is just a waste of money to me.It may also leave a scar behind forever! That will make that person even weirder.thus, i think that people should not go for plastic surgeries cause it is so fake!!

    I think plastic surgery is not advisable as it's really costly and may go wrong. There may also be scars. Botox would make you look too tight and being confident in the inside is better than the outside. Beauty is only skin deep. The opposite sex like natural beauty more than the plastic surgery.

    i think that plastic surgeries are just a waste of money and there are so many risks!It may also cause you to leave a scar and that may lead to having little confidence in oneself. There are just too many disadvantages and so little advantages.Thus,people
    should never ever go for a plastic surgery.

    I will not recommend people to do any plastic surgery as it is costly and there would have high risks of unsuccesful surgery...The opposite sex likes natural beauty and plastic surgery might be off-putting.It also wastes money if you do it unecessarily.Anyway,it's better to feel confident on the inside,before looking confident on the outside.It also can cause a lot of scars,therefore its very unadvisable.

    I feel that plastic surgery is what you should do only when it is absolutely necessary. Be happy with what you look like!

    I think you can have surgery only when it is necessary. Some surgeries are dangerous.

    For me, I think plastic surgery is very unecessary , unless if you think that your nose is falling off or anything serious is going to happen to your face, go ahead.
    But if you're quite lucky, and don't have falling noses or ears, then I suggest not to. Just because you want to look like a movie star, and you go for plastic surgery,what if it fails, you may get disfigured for life!
    Everything has its good and bad.Actually, it lies in your choice.

    I think people who take plastic surgery is not satisfied with the face God created. God must be REALLY SAD!!! I don't recommend anyone to take plastic surgery, so that they won't hurt God's feelings! :D

    I not against plastic surgery since I've seen many people who successfully undergo in different types of surgeries especially the celebrities. As far as I knew Plastic surgeon Los Angeles was known for their great works.
    Though natural beauty is much better rather than letting yourselves feel those unwanted pain.

    i don't think that people should do plastic surgery because god created everyone of us and how we look like.. plastic surgery will also cost us a lot of money and it may not be successful at all times too.

    I think one can have plastic surgery if that person has a horrible scar or burn on his/her body which causes that person to be rejected by society (that person can have face reshaping). But if a person goes through plastic surgery because he/she wants to look pretty/ handsome that person looks normal enough, it is definitely not advisable as their parent's hard-earned money will be wasted. And after going through plastic surgery, the fake parts (like eyelids etc) can start to droop and one will have to spend even more money on maintenance.

    I would never want to have plastic surgerybecause we need to take extra care.What if we die because of that ...surgery that is bad for me?It is so like "horrible"!We also need to take pain killer if it is too pain,then we die.hehehe!

    I do not think that plastic surgery is very good as it is very risky . The reason why I am saying that it is not very good is that something may go wrong with the surgery or it may have side effects .

    we should not go for plastic sugery ,as it is going to cost a lot of money and we have to take risk .Of course , natural is then beauty that why i just cannot understand why you may have what you wanted but you will suffer the pain and people may not see you like [so beatiful]

    I don't think plastic surgery is such a good idea... I'm okay if i need surgery...but plastic surgery? Let me tell you one thing. Plastic surgery AND normal surgery is a total diffrent story. Surgery is a decision by a doctor to operate on something in your body while plastic surgery is arranged by you yourself to actually go for it. In any way, i'm still against the idea of it.

    I think that although plastic sugery has its certain risk,People only take the risk because they want to look beautiful... I think that many people want to look like people they think are beautiful but i think that even though many people says you ugly, you should always appreciate the natural beauty that god gave you...

    I do not think plastic surgery is advisable unless really needed to treat scars or health issues. It is costly and has many risks which could cause a negative affect instead.

    Although plastic surgery may improve one's confidence about their outside beauty, but it would be horrible if the surgery goes wrong. It is a very big risk to take. I think i wouldn't go for a plastic surgery.

    I think that we should not go for operations or plastic surgeries at such a young age , even if they make us pretty or handsome or make us regain our self-esteem . Even though most of the time, plastic surgeries are successful, it also has it risk, maybe it may cause stuff like depression and it may also cause disfigure if not successful. God created everyone the way we are and make everyone unique in their own ways. We should not try to change ourselves.

    Even though people think that plastic surgery makes them pretty/beautiful it actually makes them look fake, awful, ugly, repulsive, repugnant, flabbier and horrendous than usual. And if they do breast implants and the implants are cheap, their breasts might swell up and explode on a plane uncontrollably like balloons, then the boobies will deflate and become flatter than before. "Boom" there goes the plane... and the boobies!!!

    In Korea, there is a K-pop band named SNSD and some people (Anti-SNSD) doesn't like them as 8/9 of the band has done surgery.

    Define beauty. Some would conclude it‘s attainable only through cosmetic surgeries, but truly, it’s not. Being beautiful is a choice--- It depends on what wonders you’ll do to improve on what you have.
