Interestingly, the name of the neighbourhood Serangoon came about because of a spelling mistake. In the 19th century, the burong ramggong, a small marsh bird, was commonly found in the swamps of north-east Singapore. Thus, a river in that part of Singapore was named “Saranggong”, a combination of part of the word “satu” (Malay word for “one”) and “ranggong”.
Activity:
Imagine you have to take a friend on a tour of Serangoon and Upper Serangoon Roads. Using a street directory, choose one place along these roads that you would introduce to your friend and explain why.

I will bring you to NEX as it is very convenient it has a circle line but lots of people goes there and many carpark lots are taken up very fast so the best way to get there is by MRT or the bus many children likes to go there espacially after school.

There is a new and happening shopping mall called Nex
it has a cinema they have all kinds of restaurant, two huge super market in the shopping centre. There is a train station and a new bus interchange located near the mall.It would be convenient to get there.Enioy

Situated at 790 Upper Serangoon Road, Singapore Crocodile Farm, a place where I had always enjoyed visiting with my grandparents. It is one of the rare places in Sin. They rear and breed crocodile in a bungalow-size compound. I read that they also provide free tour for individual or group visitors with advance booking. I wish the school will bring us for their special educational package tour which includes worksheets and goodie bags. If u are interested, log in to www.singaporecrocodilefarm.com. First I will bring my friend to Little India to show the deep Indian culture in Singapore. Then we will walk along the Serangoon Road highlighting the typical Indian shops, Indian food, Indian vegetables and spices.
When we reach Farer Park MRT, I will discuss about how Rangoon Road got its name from the Rangoon City (Yangoon), the capital of Myanmar (Burma). Then I would ask how Serangoon Road got it name. I am sure my friend would be wrong . Then I would tell the real story behind Serangoon Road's name.
Late if my friend want to do some shopping I would bring to City Square Mall.
